ADVANCED TREATMENT AFTERCARE
The purpose of a chemical peel is to accelerate your skin's cellular rejuvenation and, depending on the type of peel, target wrinkles, hydration, acne, or discoloration.
Depending on your skin's sensitivity and your current at home skincare regime, you may feel tingling, burning, itching, dryness, redness or tightness after a chemical peel. Skin flakiness or peeling is not always a side effect of a chemical peel.
Proper post-peel skin care is essential for good results.
Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, it is normal to experience a variety of side effects as your skin goes through the post-peel renewal process.
Professional peel side effects can include redness, dryness, itching or irritation as well as swelling, tightness, peeling or scabbing. With 2-3 days, skin may look flaky or tan as the outermost surface peels off to make room for more radiant, new skin. You may also notice temporarily more pronounced discoloration or age spots as they rise to the skin’s surface before getting sloughed away.
FOR ONE WEEK OR UNTIL FLAKINESS AND PEELING SUBSIDES,
Wash your face gently, with tepid water, and with a balancing gentle cleanser.
Do not scrub your face with a washcloth, towel, abrasive cleansers or masks, or with cleansers containing aha/bha ingredients.
Use of targeted serums is recommended unless the serums contain aha/bha ingredients and DISCONTINUE USE of Retin-A, Retinol, Tretinoin, or similar topical products.
Keep skin moisturized. Since peels can temporarily compromise your skin’s protective barrier, it’s important to reinforce that barrier with a medium-to-thick moisturizer. Also, drink more water to help avoid dehydration.
ALWAYS use sunscreen with SPF30 or more. Skin exposure leads to sunspots, wrinkles, and skin cancers. Your skin is more delicate after a peel, so avoid direct sun exposure. Even if it is cloudy or you are spending minimal time in the sun, use a Broad Spectrum physical sunscreen with SPF30 or more.
Avoid sweating, gym sessions, saunas, steam rooms, and hats. Increased blood circulation to the face can intensify warming, tingling, itching, redness or other uncomfortable side effects on freshly peeled skin. Skip such activities on the day you use a peel.
After one week, you may continue your regular at home regime including use of active ingredients and retinols.
